IDE@S Computers - Senior Network Engineer

IDEaS Computers, located in SW Minnesota, is currently seeking a talented and motivated individual with strong knowledge of general networking and server administration with at least 4 years of computer service experience. Candidate must be able to work independently, prioritize tasks, be well organized and have outstanding written and oral communications skills. The responsibilities and duties of this position include, but are not limited to:
  • Configure and maintain production and corporate networks
  • Assist with administering and maintaining network infrastructure
  • Perform and assist with network design, network capacity planning, monitoring, reconfigure, and tuning of network hardware
  • Configure and install new network equipment
  • Help maintain network hardware/software up to date
  • Maintain current network configurations back-ups
  • Work with NOC in monitoring network health
  • Participate in an on-call schedule
  • Participate in off-hours changes to address service outages and scheduled upgrades
  • Perform and document network operation processes and procedures
  • Good understanding of group policy management
  • Designs and plans SAN storage, business continuity and disaster recovery solutions for Windows systems and services
  • Troubleshoots SQL database problems and optimize performance where necessary
  • Troubleshoots Microsoft Exchange problems and optimize performance where necessary

Senior Network Engineer Qualifications:
  • Layer-2 STP/VTP
  • Familiar with Layer 2, 3, and 4 troubleshooting
  • Packet capturing, tracing, and packet flow (optimization and analysis)
  • TCP 3-way handshake
  • Experience troubleshooting the network layer
  • Experience with different network monitoring tools
  • Scripting (Perl, Shell, and TCL/TK)
  • Linux/UNIX troubleshooting
  • Pro-active
  • Good communication skills/personality
